About Me
Hello! My name is Jill Nielsen, and I’m thrilled to be starting my sixth school year at Onahan. I began my teaching journey here as a PE teacher during the pandemic, and for the past five years, I have had the joy of teaching third grade!
A little about me... I was born and raised on the Northwest side of Chicago, where I developed a passion for the arts. I attended CPS’s first public performing arts high school, ChiArts, with a major in dance. My dance background led me to the University of Arizona, where I student taught in Tucson, Arizona, and even had the unique opportunity to teach English in Kvinnherad, Norway, during the final two months of my student teaching experience. I graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education and an ESL endorsement. I earned my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University, and I'm excited to be working on my Reading Teacher endorsement, which I will complete by this winter!
My teaching philosophy centers around creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and inspired to learn. I believe in fostering creativity and critical thinking while encouraging students to take ownership of their education. By integrating hands-on learning experiences and promoting collaboration, I strive to make learning engaging and meaningful for all my students.
Outside of the classroom, I am a proud director and choreographer for the Onahan Musical Theatre Department. When I’m not teaching, you can find me traveling, spending quality time with friends & family, reading, watching movies, or working out.
I am looking forward to an amazing school year filled with fun, learning, and lots of creativity! Let’s make it a great year together!
